DFAL Championships 11-06-2010—a day filled with excellent racing!

Posted by Alison Zamanian on Nov 08 2010 at 10:56PM PST

Concluding our final DFAL meet at Hidden Valley Park in Martinez on Saturday, November 6th, we finished the season with thrilling finishes, lots of cheering and exceptional parent support. Thank you to the parents who were able to help at this meet! As we have had for the past two DFAL Center meets, the Frosh/Soph and JV ran on the 2-mile course and Varsity ran on the 3-mile course. Almost all of our runners ran significantly faster than the first and second races at Hidden Valley in September!
Our division places for the championships are as follows:
• Frosh/Soph Girls—5th place
• Frosh/Soph Boys—4th place
• JV Girls—4th place
• JV Boys—2nd place
• Varsity Girls—5th place
• Varsity Boys—3rd place (missing 2nd place by 1 pt to Las Lomas)
Top 3 finishers in per division are as follows:
Frosh/Soph Girls:
Leading the way in the Frosh/Soph girls race was Freshman Meg Swinton, coming in at 18th place with a 14:47, followed closely by Freshman Andrea Tamminga at 21st place and a time of 14:55. Alyssa Trumble was our third Frosh/Soph MAT with a time of 15:47 for 38th place. Special note: Freshmen Colleen McCullough and Hanna Abruzzo had two of the best finishes of the meet, with full blast sprints to the finish line, passing other runners until they crossed the finish line! This was very exciting to see!
Frosh/Soph Boys:
In the Frosh/Soph boys race the top 3 MATS all broke the 12-minute barrier, with Sophomore Dillon Read as the top Frosh/Soph MAT, with a 11:42 for 12th place, followed by Freshman Charlie Zamanian at 19th place with a 11:51, then Sophomore Cameron Hoyh at 21st with an 11:57.
JV Girls:
JV MATS girls had two seniors in the top three, with Junior Mary Doyle at 11th place with a 15:06. Senior Karen Fuhriman was 15th place with a 15:25, followed by Senior Miranda Sam at 22nd place with a 16:03.
JV Boys:
Our JV MATS boys were led by two seniors— Johnleigh Dean capturing 10th place with an 11:57 and Ashraf Mathkour just 5 seconds later for a 13th place at 12:02—followed by Junior Brent Glowatch at 21st place with a 12:18.
Varsity Girls: on 3-mile course
Leahna Purcell led the MATS Varsity girls with a time of 20:45 to come in 20th. Freshman Sierra Ryder was 23rd with a 20:57 and sister, Junior, Savannah Ryder was 26th with a time of 21:43.
Varsity Boys: on 3-mile course:
The last race of the day ended with the MATS Varsity boys accomplishing a sensational feat—3 boys in the top 10! Sophomore Tyler Hanson earned a 2nd place finish at 16:02 with teammate, Junior, Jamie Fehrnstrom at 3rd with a 16:10. Fellow Junior Matt Stewart finished strong with a 7th place finish at 16:35.
