News and Announcements

Having arrived just in time for the Homecoming dance on Saturday, 10/9, the MATS came home with the knowledge of what it is like to race on the State course as well as to compete among 120 high schools. Our two top Varsity boys—Jamie Fehrnstrom (Jr) and Matt Stewart (Jr)—earned a 5th and 19th place respectively (out of 164 boys). Tyler Hanson (Soph) and Adam Roeder (Jr) were just 10 seconds from each other, at 17:22 and 17:32. Pierce Haley (Sr) had a solid performance at 18:15 as did Charlie Z (Fr).
Our Varsity MATS girls had Sierra Ryder (Fr) leading the way to finish at 21:05 (55th place out of 162 girls). Savannah Ryder (Jr) was right there with her at 21:28, followed by Lauren Branagh (Fr) at 22:00. Hannah Li (Fr) and Mary Doyle (Jr) were next, at 23:06 and 23:38 respectively, followed Hannah Swernoff (Jr).
As we had discussed going into the race, that first mile was FAST! It’s all about controlling the speed….

Posted by Lana Sommerville at Oct 6, 2010 3:02PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Mark you calendars for Saturday, October 23 for the Cross Country Team Car Wash! It will be held at Orinda Motors from 10:00am to 2:00pm.

This is our BIGGEST (and only) FUNDRAISER for the season. Coach Z. will have sign up sheets for the kids at practice next week. To make this event a great success, we need all the kids to participate.

A big THANK YOU to Gil Roeder for coordinating this event.

Thanks,
Lana Sommerville

Seven runners earn Scott Bauhs shirts at 10/2 Invite!
The early morning rain may have worried some about the races on Saturday, but it quickly dissipated and ended up being a fantastic day for the Scott Bauhs Invitational races at Shadow Cliffs in Pleasanton. For many, this 3-mile course was their first ever and a true test of endurance. The MATS showed not only team spirit but also the determination to do their best.
We had 7 runners who were in the top 10 for their grade, earning themselves a special Scott Bauhs Adidas shirt; and to add to this treat, Scott Bauhs was at the race signing these shirts.
The 7 runners who were in the top 10 are as follows:
• Freshman boy: Charlie Zamanian, 4th, with a 17:25
• Freshman girls: Sierra Ryder, 2nd with a 20:10 & Hannah Li, 7th with a 21:08
• Sophomore boy: Tyler Hanson, 5th at 16:10
• Junior boys: Jamie Fehrnstrom, 3rd with 15:50 & Matt Stewart, 5th at 16:02
• Senior girl: Leahna Purcell, 7th with a time of 20:49
The following represent the team places for those divisions where we had 5 or more runners:
 Freshman girls—4th place out of 7 teams
 Sophomore boys—9th place out of 16 teams
 Junior boys—4th place out of 14 teams (Campo was 6th!)
 Senior boys—7th place out of 11 teams
Please see the attached file on Team Documents for the full results.

XC Clothing Embroidery

Posted by Lana Sommerville at Oct 3, 2010 8:48PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Hello Everyone,

If any of your kids already have XC Team Jackets or Sweatshirts, and would like to get them embroidered, please have your child bring the item(s) to practice no later than Tuesday of this week and give them to Coach Z. You can also drop them off at my house if that is more convenient (5 De Soto Court, right off of St. Stephens). Items should be placed in a bag with a note telling us how you would like the name embroidered. Please also include $5 (cash or check made out to MHS XC) for each item requiring embroidery. We will be getting the items embroidered this week.

If you’ve ordered uniforms for your kids and have already specified that you want embroidery, you do not need to respond to this email.

If you have any questions, please email me or call me at (925) 354-1213.

Thank you,
Lana
